Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 35 is 420

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 420

    45/60 = 45 × 7/60 × 7 = 315/420
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 35 × 12 = 420,
    50/35 = 50 × 12/35 × 12 = 600/420
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 315/420 < 600/420 or 45/60 < 50/35
