Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 63 and 25 is 1575

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1575
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 63 × 25 = 1575,
    5/63 = 5 × 25/63 × 25 = 125/1575
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 25 × 63 = 1575,
    10/25 = 10 × 63/25 × 63 = 630/1575
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 125/1575 < 630/1575 or 5/63 < 10/25
