Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 15 and 6 is 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 15 × 2 = 30,
    50/15 = 50 × 2/15 × 2 = 100/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 5 = 30,
    50/6 = 50 × 5/6 × 5 = 250/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 100/30 < 250/30 or 50/15 < 50/6
