Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 32 is 480
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 16 = 480,
    50/30 = 50 × 16/30 × 16 = 800/480
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 15 = 480,
    6/32 = 6 × 15/32 × 15 = 90/480
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 800/480 > 90/480 or 50/30 > 6/32
