Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 63 and 12 is 252

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 252
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 63 × 4 = 252,
    50/63 = 50 × 4/63 × 4 = 200/252
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 12 × 21 = 252,
    10/12 = 10 × 21/12 × 21 = 210/252
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 200/252 < 210/252 or 50/63 < 10/12
