Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 14 and 32 is 224

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 224
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 14 × 16 = 224,
    6/14 = 6 × 16/14 × 16 = 96/224
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 7 = 224,
    20/32 = 20 × 7/32 × 7 = 140/224
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 96/224 < 140/224 or 6/14 < 20/32
