Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 20 and 4 is 20

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 20
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 20 × 1 = 20,
    6/20 = 6 × 1/20 × 1 = 6/20
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 4 × 5 = 20,
    10/4 = 10 × 5/4 × 5 = 50/20
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 6/20 < 50/20 or 6/20 < 10/4
