Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 7 is 21

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 21
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 7 = 21,
    6/3 = 6 × 7/3 × 7 = 42/21
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 7 × 3 = 21,
    10/7 = 10 × 3/7 × 3 = 30/21
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 42/21 > 30/21 or 6/3 > 10/7
