Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 90 is 90

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 3 = 90,
    6/30 = 6 × 3/30 × 3 = 18/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 90 × 1 = 90,
    2/90 = 2 × 1/90 × 1 = 2/90
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
