Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 27 is 270

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 270
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 9 = 270,
    6/30 = 6 × 9/30 × 9 = 54/270
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 27 × 10 = 270,
    6/27 = 6 × 10/27 × 10 = 60/270
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 54/270 < 60/270 or 6/30 < 6/27
