Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 32 and 35 is 1120

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1120
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 32 × 35 = 1120,
    6/32 = 6 × 35/32 × 35 = 210/1120
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 35 × 32 = 1120,
    27/35 = 27 × 32/35 × 32 = 864/1120
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 210/1120 < 864/1120 or 6/32 < 27/35
