Steps for comparing fractions

1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
   LCM of 40 and 16 is 80
   
   Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 80
2. For the 1st fraction, since 40 × 2 = 80,
   6/40 = 6 × 2/40 × 2 = 12/80
3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 16 × 5 = 80,
   2/16 = 2 × 5/16 × 5 = 10/80
4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
5. 12/80 > 10/80 or 6/40 > 2/16
