Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 45 and 32 is 1440

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1440
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 45 × 32 = 1440,
    6/45 = 6 × 32/45 × 32 = 192/1440
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 45 = 1440,
    25/32 = 25 × 45/32 × 45 = 1125/1440
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 192/1440 < 1125/1440 or 6/45 < 25/32
