Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 54 and 56 is 1512

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1512
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 54 × 28 = 1512,
    6/54 = 6 × 28/54 × 28 = 168/1512
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 56 × 27 = 1512,
    35/56 = 35 × 27/56 × 27 = 945/1512
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
