Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 56 is 840

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 840
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 14 = 840,
    6/60 = 6 × 14/60 × 14 = 84/840
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 56 × 15 = 840,
    30/56 = 30 × 15/56 × 15 = 450/840
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 84/840 < 450/840 or 6/60 < 30/56
