Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 63 is 1260
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 21 = 1260,
    6/60 = 6 × 21/60 × 21 = 126/1260
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 63 × 20 = 1260,
    8/63 = 8 × 20/63 × 20 = 160/1260
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 126/1260 < 160/1260 or 6/60 < 8/63
