Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 63 and 30 is 630
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 63 × 10 = 630,
    6/63 = 6 × 10/63 × 10 = 60/630
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 21 = 630,
    9/30 = 9 × 21/30 × 21 = 189/630
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 60/630 < 189/630 or 6/63 < 9/30
