Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 7 and 36 is 252

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 252
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 7 × 36 = 252,
    6/7 = 6 × 36/7 × 36 = 216/252
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 36 × 7 = 252,
    15/36 = 15 × 7/36 × 7 = 105/252
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 216/252 > 105/252 or 6/7 > 15/36
