Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 7 and 30 is 210
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 7 × 30 = 210,
    6/7 = 6 × 30/7 × 30 = 180/210
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 7 = 210,
    45/30 = 45 × 7/30 × 7 = 315/210
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 180/210 < 315/210 or 6/7 < 45/30
