Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 90 and 30 is 90

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 90 × 1 = 90,
    6/90 = 6 × 1/90 × 1 = 6/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 3 = 90,
    7/30 = 7 × 3/30 × 3 = 21/90
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 6/90 < 21/90 or 6/90 < 7/30
