Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 10 and 7 is 70

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 70
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 10 × 7 = 70,
    60/10 = 60 × 7/10 × 7 = 420/70
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 7 × 10 = 70,
    3/7 = 3 × 10/7 × 10 = 30/70
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 420/70 > 30/70 or 60/10 > 3/7
