Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 90 and 36 is 180

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 180
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 90 × 2 = 180,
    60/90 = 60 × 2/90 × 2 = 120/180
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 36 × 5 = 180,
    35/36 = 35 × 5/36 × 5 = 175/180
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 120/180 < 175/180 or 60/90 < 35/36
