Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 16 is 240
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 8 = 240,
    63/30 = 63 × 8/30 × 8 = 504/240
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 16 × 15 = 240,
    10/16 = 10 × 15/16 × 15 = 150/240
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 504/240 > 150/240 or 63/30 > 10/16
