Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 10 is 30

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 1 = 30,
    7/30 = 7 × 1/30 × 1 = 7/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 3 = 30,
    2/10 = 2 × 3/10 × 3 = 6/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 7/30 > 6/30 or 7/30 > 2/10
