Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 6 is 12
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 3 = 12,
    8/4 = 8 × 3/4 × 3 = 24/12
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 2 = 12,
    10/6 = 10 × 2/6 × 2 = 20/12
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 24/12 > 20/12 or 8/4 > 10/6
