Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 7 is 420

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 420
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 7 = 420,
    8/60 = 8 × 7/60 × 7 = 56/420
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 7 × 60 = 420,
    30/7 = 30 × 60/7 × 60 = 1800/420
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 56/420 < 1800/420 or 8/60 < 30/7
