Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 3 is 30

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 1 = 30,
    90/30 = 90 × 1/30 × 1 = 90/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 3 × 10 = 30,
    30/3 = 30 × 10/3 × 10 = 300/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 90/30 < 300/30 or 90/30 < 30/3
