Steps for adding fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 24

    2/3 = 2 × 8/3 × 8 = 16/24
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 3 = 24,
    6/8 = 6 × 3/8 × 3 = 18/24
  4. Add the two like fractions:
    16/24 + 18/24 = 16 + 18/24 = 34/24
  5. 34/24 simplified gives 17/12
  6. So, 2/3 + 6/8 = 17/12
