Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 15 is 15
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 5 = 15,
    4/3 = 4 × 5/3 × 5 = 20/15
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 15 × 1 = 15,
    10/15 = 10 × 1/15 × 1 = 10/15
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 20/15 > 10/15 or 4/3 > 10/15
